I believe the text purpose is to inform the reader of how slaves were treated and their daily lives were. The intended audience from my perspective are teenagers.

The text structure for this novel is description,because it is describing a slaves life and showing what a slave had to accomplish in their daily lives.

Nobody ever wanted to be a slave. On page 24 it states that people took their own lives,because they had believed that it would be better than being a slave. Then on page 42 it shows how families were separated and that it was rare for someone to buy the husband and the wife. Lastly on page 74 you can basically hear the whips cracking and the slaves screaming, this shows how cruel the owners were to their slaves. These are all reasons why no one wanted to be a slave.
