Mount Everest Webquest Discussion and Answers

Key 1)How did Everest form? An oceanic plate collided with a continental plate. 2)Which two plates? Indian and Eurasian 3)What is “Continental Drift?” The theory that the tectonic plates are moving causing drift of the continents. 4)The “super continent” is Pangea.

Key 5) Answers vary 6) Rocks on Everest include: -Schist: under pressure and heat -Granite: igneous -Sedimentary: from the ocean including shale, limestone, and sandstone.

Key 7)Answers vary 8)Tall grass  deer  tiger 9)Air pressure is the pull of gravity on air. 10)Altitude, temperature, and position on Earth affect air pressure. (Less pressure with increasing altitude, decreasing temperature, and at the poles.)

Key 11) Increasing altitude affects the human body in many ways. Two major areas include hypoxia (lack of oxygen, which is important for fueling muscles) and increased respiratory rate (breathing faster) 12) The study aims to explain the Sherpa’s high level of athleticism.
