Framework for Members to Extract Value Measure Performance and Strategic Impact Understand Knowledge or Technology Potential Implement Communicate Experience Technology Transfer Execution Framework (TTEF) Agree and Communicate on Results to Implement A documented approach to extract value based on members’ best practices to select, implement, evaluate and communicate their application and use of EPRI results. EPRI Role Understand the elements in each phase of TTEF Introduce the TTEF to members, where appropriate, to assist in their technology transfer efforts Work with members to develop specific actions to strengthen their technology transfer processes Identify TTEF best practices to share with others Member Role Understand TTEF as it relates to extracting value from your EPRI membership Communicate TTEF to key stakeholders responsible for technology transfer Use TTEF questions to better understand process gaps Work with EPRI sales staff to develop specific actions to strengthen technology transfer processes Share TTEF best practices with EPRI/other members

© 2007 Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. All rights reserved. Framework for Members to Extract Value Do you have a process to select EPRI results to apply? Do you have a process to identify expected results for potential application of EPRI deliverables? Do you have a procedure that defines expectations of your staffs relationships with EPRI? Do you have personnel attending Advisory meetings for all funded programs? Do you develop a list of screened opportunities for each delivery year? Measure Performance and Strategic Impact Understand Knowledge or Technology Potential Implement Communicate Experience What does success look like after implementation? What are expectations of internal staff (ongoing advisory engagement)? How do you conduct an analysis of all deliverables including the potential for Demonstration Sites? How do you identify deliverables for both current and future needs? How could this item influence regulation? What is the history of the technology? Do you prefer to be an early adopter or to engage other utility champions for this technology? Technology Transfer Execution: Questions You Need to Answer Technology Transfer Execution: How Well are You Doing? Agree and Communicate on Results to Implement Output: List of Screened Opportunities

© 2007 Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. All rights reserved. Framework for Members to Extract Value Do you prioritize/rank the list of screened opportunities? Do you identify an end user/champion for all selected opportunities? Do you develop detailed implementation plans (i.e. scope, timing, budget) for each selection? Do you document the expected strategic impact on your organization for each opportunity selected? Do you have executive buy-in/support for each implementation? Do you communicate potential value and intent to implement to key internal stakeholders? Does each implementation plan get approved before commencing? What are their established roles and accountability and how are they evaluated? What approach do you use to communicate potential value and intent to implement? How do you rank and prioritize items to implement (multi-year)? How do you estimate the costs (labor, capital, etc.) for implementation? How do you determine the expectation, cost benefit, regulatory impact, or risk for applying these results? How do you identify and address the challenges of implementation? How is buy-in established at the executive, business unit, plant level? How are these items part of your Technology Roadmap? How do you consider past success in your selection? Technology Transfer Execution: Questions You Need to Answer Technology Transfer Execution: How Well Are You Doing? Agree and Communicate on Results to Implement Output: Approved Implementation Plan

© 2007 Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. All rights reserved. Framework for Members to Extract Value Does the end user/champion communicate the progress of implementation at all levels of the organization? Do you meet regularly to review implementation progress? Is the successful completion of the application documented and communicated? Measure Performance and Strategic Impact Understand Knowledge or Technology Potential Implement Communicate Experience What is your internal communication plan especially with end users/champions? What is your progress review process? What is your process for collecting feedback on issues early and often (i.e., course correction)? How does your advisor or champion ensure implementation progress is visible at all levels of the organization? Technology Transfer Execution: Questions You Need to Answer Technology Transfer Execution: How Well Are You Doing? Agree and Communicate on Results to Implement Output: Knowledge or Technology Applied

© 2007 Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. All rights reserved. Framework for Members to Extract Value Do you compare results to initial expectations and strategic impact? Do you complete an application evaluation form for each implementation (timely, ranked)? Measure Performance and Strategic Impact Understand Knowledge or Technology Potential Implement Communicate Experience What does success look like after implementation? How do you compare results to initial expectations (including strategic impact)? What is the feedback mechanism from champions and end users on this application? How would you rank this application with respect to strategic impact and in terms of product fulfillment? How do you close out applications and document results? Technology Transfer Execution: Questions You Need to Answer Technology Transfer Execution: How Well Are You Doing? Agree and Communicate on Results to Implement Output: Performance Evaluation

© 2007 Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. All rights reserved. Framework for Members to Extract Value Do you have process to collect highlights/challenges of each implementation to be used for communications? Do you recognize end user/champions for applying technology (i.e. nominate for technology transfer awards, performance recognition awards, etc.)?
