Siding Applications

Siding Praparation Siding should be installed once the windows and doors have been completely installed. Siding can be made out of various materials  Steel (aluminum)‏  Vinyl  Brick  Wood  Stucco

House Wrapping Recently houses have a type of polyethylene woven fabric wrapped around the house. This fabric is impermeable to water and air but does allow water vapour to pass through (which is good if you do happen to get moisture in your walls)‏ By installing this you home can become air and water tight which is important to ensuring energy efficiency as well as preventing damage cause by water)‏

Brick Siding Brick are made by compressing clay and firing them in a kiln between 1000 and 1200°C. Bricks are an expensive option but do add value to the home. The are low maintenance, fire resistant and good natural insulators.

Steel Siding Steel siding is used not only for the siding but for fascia, soffit, windows and doors.(aluminum)‏ Also expensive this type of siding is durable and come in a variety of different designs. Insect, Wind and water resistant. Paint can tend to fade over time. Aluminum siding is also available but being a softer metal it is not as durable as steel,

Vinyl Siding Similar to steel as far as installation goes. Vinyl siding is made out of a thermoplastic polymer. Not as durable as steel and does not insulate as well as other siding options. Colours can fade Relatively inexpensive. Hides scratches and blemishes well.

Wood Siding Wood siding is made out of softwood planks. It offers some insulation value, natural look is appealing and is easy to install and repair. It is a cheaper siding option (not cedar)‏ Requires regular maintenance (staining, painting)‏ If it is not maintained, can foster growth of mold, algae or moss and can eventually rot.

Stucco Siding Stucco is a mortar mixture used for siding. Stucco can be made by mixing sand and lime with water and various other ingredients, most often cement. Usually, wooden walls are covered with tar paper and chicken wire or galvanized metal screening. It is fire resistant, energy efficient and can expand and contract without cracking Show stains and blemishes more than other options, costly, can crack if foundation shifts and does not stand up to cold weather.
