Self Reliance (J.cole) “ A man is relieved and gay when he has put his heart into his work and done his best.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson “ Self-Reliance” ‘ Apparently’ this first single captures the mission of ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive.’ It’s all about the importance of making the music you want to make, and being true to your own vision, no matter what some might say. Atop an uplifting beat, Cole sings and raps about “ Keeping my head high, “ and how he’s going to paint his own canvas the way he wants to paint it his canvas, so don’t tell him how to paint his canvas. He also mixes in some autobiographical details, namely about how pursuing his artistic goals is a sometimes selfish pursuit that has caused him to neglect his loved ones. But he has a dream and he must go for it. So don’t get in his way! I believe J.Cole's song “Apparently” conveys his sense of self-reliance. He wants to paint his own canvas and won’t let nobody stop him. Chris McCandless can relate to J. Cole because Chris wanted to also pursue his own goals as an explorer by going into the wild and didn’t let nobody hold him back. J. Cole's mind speaks powerfully, he even wants the Lord to follow after him. His sense of Transcendentalism is clearly conveyed in his music.

Favoring Intuition over reason Superman “ The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson “ Self-reliance” With the imminent destruction of Krypton, their home planet, Jor-El and his wife seek to preserve their race by sending their infant son to Earth. The child’s spacecraft lands on the farm of Jonathan and Martha Kent, who named him Clark and raised him as their own son. Though his extraordinary abilities have led to the adult Clark living on the fringe of Society, he finds he must become a hero to save those he loves from a dire threat. While I respect his courage and dignity, Superman truly has a heart made of steel. He moves on pure intuition and always arrives at the right time to save the earth from destruction. A man that is willing to sacrifice his life to save the earth is obviously a fearless and daring man. Superman conveys this attitude, and even if he died saving the earth he would feel inner happiness. Chris McCandless is similar in a sense that is why people think he’s crazy; he’s not afraid to go and do what his heart tells him.

Simplified Life Steve Irwin “ I learned this at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” - Henry David Thoreau “ Life in the Woods” Steve Irwin ( February 22, 1062 – September 4, 2006), nicknamed “ The Crocodile Hunter” , was an Australian wildlife expert and television personality. His program “ The Crocodile Hunter” was internationally broadcast and helped cement his reputation as an enthusiastic and the wildlife presenter. He was killed in 2006 by a Sting Ray, whilst filming a documentary about the Great Barrier Reef. Sometimes, he was criticized for provoking wildlife. But, he felt his contribution was to promote conservation and respect for the environment by sharing his passion for animals and the natural world in a way which engaged people. I think Steve Irwin is a perfect example of a person who lives his/her life doing what they love. He lived his life in simplicity and was never scared to experience the unpredictable nature of the environment, in fact he respected nature. He got a way from the current world and lived with nature catching crocodiles and reptiles. With only the essentials of life he traveled around the world seeing the beauty of the environment. He did what he loved to the end in happiness even in his death.

Importance of Nature Guy Combes “ The scenery, when it is truly seen, reacts on the life of the seer. How to live. How to get the most of life…. How to extract its honey from the flower of the world.” – Henry David Thoreau “Life in the Woods” Guy Combes, born in Kenya, is inspired by the rich mosaic of biodiversity OF East Africa. His career began on the Heels of his father’s reputation as an internationally renowned artist. A retrospective of Simon Combes’ work at the Hiram Blauvelt Museum in New Jersey provided Guy his first break into the world of wildlife art with an artist’s residency. He has been published by Greenwich Workshop and is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and Artists for Conservation. He has exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Natural History, Nature in Art in England and elsewhere. Today he welcomes new ground and an audience unfamiliar with his legacy, particularly in the world of conversation. I can see Guy’s sense of nature in his art. Being born in the grasslands of Kenya he fully experienced the importance of Nature. He can get away from the current world and see the world from a different perspective.
