THE MYTH OF OEDIPUS!

King Laios Queen Jocasta

It’s A Boy!!!!

What should we name him?

How about Oedipus?

Oedipus It is!

The Next day…. The King gets a letter from the oracle saying….

Dear king, I am the Oracle Yoda. I have had a vision that your new son Oedipus, when he gets older, will murder you and marry your wife A.K.A. his mother. So I’d advise you to kill your son or send him far away. Sincerely, Yoda

Good Heavens I need to send him away!!!!!

King Laios gives the baby to a shepard who travels to Corinth…. Were he meets the King of Corinth

Ahhh shepard, I need you to take my son and kill him! Ok King I will

Even after being told the story of what Oedipus will do, the king of Corinth did not kill him and continued to raise him as a child. Years later Oedipus found out the King and Queen of Corinth weren’t his real parents. He set off to find his destiny.

Get out of the way! Come back here! DIE!!!!!!

He killed the old man who tried to run him off the road and continued with his journey

Oedipus traveled far and wide.

And finally was stopped by a Sphinx.

Halt! In order to pass you must solve my riddle. What creature walks on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs in the afternoon, and 3 legs in the evening? Ummm….a human Correct!

Woot! You killed the Sphinx. Be our King! Ok sweet…I’m King Oedipus! You must marry Queen Jocasta to be king!

Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla, I pronounce you King and Queen.

The King and Queen A.K.A. mother and son got married and had 4 kids together. 2 boys and 2 girls. Polyneices and Eteocles were the boys. Antigone and Ismene were the girls.

Knock Come in I am Yoda. My vision has come true. Oedipus you have killed your father, and married your mother!!!! Oh My God!!!! EWWWW!!!!!!!

Oedipus gauged out his eyeballs and His wife/mother killed herself

Oedipus was eventually exiled out of Thebes by Creon, the new leader.
