Environmental Products of Biotechnology By: Hannah Beyer(: 6th period

Enviro-Pig Enviro-Pig is a genetically modified pig that’s able to digest phosphorus The purpose of the enviro-pig is so that when they use the pig manure to put in land areas, there isn’t much phosphorus that can lead into streams and rivers. Pro- Reduces feed costs and water pollution Con- The beginning cost for farmers will be high.  Enviro-Pigs(:

Biodiesel (Biofuel) Biodiesel sunflower(: Biodiesel is a clean burning alternate fuel made from renewable resources. People use biodiesel because it is better for the environment. Pro: It is better for the environment. Con: If not used correctly it could increase emissions and could lose lots of biodiversity. 2nd link…biodiesel.org! (: Biodiesel sunflower(:

Composting :D Composting is nature’s process of recycling decomposed materials into rich soil. The purpose of composting is to make rich soil in less time the it would take naturally. Pro: Takes less time than naturally. Con: The time and materials it requires.

Biodegradable products Something that is able to be broken down into its constituent natural elements and be absorbed by the environment. Biodegradable products break down after time and become part of the earth again. Pro: You don’t have to throw away banana peels and such, you can let them turn back into soil. Con: Isn’t always safe for people

Plastic Products made from Corn Plastic products that are made from corn. The purpose of plastic products made from corn is so that we have things we can use that are also biodegradable. Pro: They come from renewable resources. Con: Most of the corn used is genetically modified.
