WHAT DOES ORGANIC MEAN? o Organic products are cultivated without fertilizers and pesticides

HOW ARE THEY PRODUCED ? o o Organic products are produced by organic farmers who respect the environment, land and animals o Organic producers don’t use pesticides

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ORGANIC PRODUCTS? Organic products are good for our health. Organic products do not harm the environment. They have good quality, taste and scent.

ORGANIC PRODUCTS IN GREECE Vegetables (Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Peppers) Fruits (Lemons, Bananas, Oranges etc) Nuts (Almonds, Walnuts) Legumes (Beans, Lentils) Herbs (Tea, Oregano, Spearmint etc)

WHY ORGANIC PRODUCTS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE? Organic products need more money than conventional products for their production. The quantities of organic products grown are smaller than those of conventional products. The charges of cost control and product certification.

WHERE CAN YOU FIND BIO IN GREECE? Organic products market Supermarkets and other stores that they also sell and bio

F OOD MILES Some organic products are imported in Greece from other countries. For example the apples in the photo have travelled from Italy. If this distance is covered by car this creates approximately 52 kg CO2!

HOW CAN I RECOGNIZE ORGANIC PRODUCTS? o If the product is packed, it should have a label which says that the product is organic. Also it should say the number of the certification of the product. o If you buy an organic product from stores you should ask the certificate that recognizes that the product is bio.
