Part 12 – Miracles Jesus Did Not Do

37 scenes “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:” John 20:30 A miracle is an act in which God works aside from his natural laws.

Five Categories of His Miracles  Power over disease  Power over nature  Power over the spirit world  Power over material things  Power over death

 God cannot make a rock too heavy to lift  God cannot lie  God cannot cease to exist Not about what Jesus could not do ! But what he chose not to do !

 Not for His personal benefit  Not primarily of compassion  Did not come to earth to do miracles  To Prove He was the Son of God  To Show that His message was from God

Matt.9:6 “power on earth to forgive sins” John 9:3 “works of God should be revealed” Mark 16:20 “confirming the word” Heb. 2:3-4 “witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles”

“And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” Luke 4:3  Never worked miracles for his own benefit  Satan knew He was God’s Son Jesus could have made the stones into bread “Man does not live by bread alone” 1

Pharisees and Sadducees asked “that he would show them a sign from heaven.” Matt.16:1-4 Had healed multitudes - fed the 4,000 Refused to believe in Jesus More signs would be meaningless Jesus did not do miracles for the hard of heart 2

Did not work miracles to meet challenges “Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck you?” Matt.26:67-68  He was blindfolded  Who hit you ? Would serve no useful purpose. 3

“You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” Mt. 27:40 He was to die as a sacrifice for sins He was about to fulfill the prophecy “For this purpose I came to this hour” Jn.12:27 4

“Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” Matt. 13:58 Home town was Nazareth He did heal some But the miraculous works were limited ! 5

Because of their unbelief They did not have a good and honest heart Said: “Who does he think he is?” Had a hostile disposition Jesus does not force himself upon anyone

Matthew 13:57 “So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” Mark 6:4 “But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.”

Not to relieve suffering But to show He was from God And if He was from God then His Message should be believed and obeyed.

It was able to produce saving faith. Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing…” We do not need miracles today !! We must believe and obey the Gospel

“He has done all things well” Mark 7:37 Part 12 – Miracles Jesus Did Not Do
