General RttT Requirements 1.For submission to DPI…Local DSWs must include plans (i.e., a completed row on the spreadsheet) for implementing all RttT Required Activities 2.Local RttT detailed budgets (in BUD) must match Local DSWs (talk to your Finance Officer!) 3.Complete local DSWs must be submitted to DPI by August 3, 2011 (same process as last fall…but much more time to develop plans) 10/22/2015 page 3

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) 10/22/2015 page 12 What is SBAC?What impact will it have on students? What do schools and educators need to do to prepare? What is the SBAC time line? 31 States working together to develop an assessment system aligned to the Common Core Standards in ELA and Math. Will include: Computer-adaptive summative assessments with performance tasks in ELA and Math for 3-8 and high school Flexible tools for teaching (formative assessment tools, data display and analysis tools, diagnostics, checks for misconceptions) Equity of expectations Comparability of results More authentic tasks and more accurate measurement (particularly of growth) What impact will it have on teachers? The Instructional Improvement System (IIS) will be….. An online resource An integrated repository of shared tools and applications A tool to help educators improve instruction A device to integrate data from multiple sources, including NC WISE Instructional Improvement System NC EDUCATION CLOUD 10/22/2015 page 14

Expectations for IIS LEAs will be asked to participate in surveys, interviews and focus groups to further refine the vision for the IIS. Participants will include LEA staff, school staff, students, and parents. No expenses will be incurred for participating. LEAs will be asked to provide feedback on the vision and the implementation plan for the IIS. No expenses will be incurred for participating. Data use resource documents will be developed and distributed to LEAs and discussed via webinars. LEA will need to pay for the cost of phoning into the webinar. 10/22/2015 page 15
