TO MITIGATE CLIMATE CHANGE BASED ON BIOTECHNOLOGY

OBJECTIVE: Todays challenges are various and contradictory. Increasing economic needs are needed in order to provide a growing population. Negative environmental impacts must be minimised and production has to adapt, to a rapidly and ever varying environment stemming from climate change.New technology and New approaches such as improving the needs through genetic engineering and genomic assisted breeding and the use of recycled waste water are being developed. In this view,I deliver the concept of biotechnology to mitigate climate change.

CLIMATE CHANGE MEANS: Higher temperature Longer droughts Hotter oceans Melting ice caps Rapid sea level rise

EFFECTS COULD BE: More powerful, destructive hurricanes Harm to agriculture and economics Flooding of coastlines and coastal cities

CLIMATE DESTABILIZATION: Not a enivornmental problem,a human rights issue

HOW TO MITIGATE: BIOTECNOLOGY: Innovative Technology Innovative Technology Reduce carbon footprint Reduce carbon footprint Decrease Green House Gas emissions Decrease Green House Gas emissions Reduce waste products Reduce waste productsAPPLICATION: Industrial Biotechnology Industrial Biotechnology Agricultural Biotechnology Agricultural Biotechnology

INDUSTRIAL BIOTECHNOLOGY: Processing and production of chemicals Enzymes and microorganisms Pollution prevention In sectors: Chemicals Chemicals Textiles and energy Textiles and energy Food and feed Food and feed Paper and pulp Paper and pulp

CHEMICAL INDUSTRY: Reduce co2 emissions Reduce energy consumption Tyre friction Tyre friction Starch as a polymer filler Reduce tyre noise Replaced chemical compounds

TEXTILE SECTOR: Enzymes, Bio-degradable Saving 30% Electricity Reduce co2 emissions Reduction of Eco-toxic substances Cotton fibres

GREEN BIOTECHNOLOGY: Enable Agriculture Ensuring production keeps Reduce CO 2 emissions Reduce fertilizers use and N 2 O emissions

AGRICULTURE BIOTECHNOLOGY: AGRICULTURE BIOTECHNOLOGY: Green Biotechnology Improve Environmental sustainability Ensure food production Reduce carbon footprint CO 2 mitigation and sequestration

BOOSTING CARBON SEQUESTRATION: Adoption of herbicide tolerant crops Soybeans, sugar beats Rapeseeds

REDUCED FERTILIZER USE: Less Nitrogen pollution Reduce GreenHouse Gas emissions Nitrogen Use Efficiency Technology(NUE) :

MULTIPLE BENEFITS OF BIOTECHNOLOGY: Lower CO 2 emissions Lower dependance on unstable regions, petroleum Fine chemicals Increasing yields Economic efficiency Greener Economy Creates jobs

CONCLUSION: Succesful development of advanced technologies could result in potentially large economic benefits. We have a responsibility to leave a clean and productive environment and healthy eco- systems for future generation.
