For Next Week Be sure you know how to –Create valid XHTML documents –Link to other XHTML documents –Link to an external style sheet Containing CSS –Display an image in your web pages –Use the validator to validate for XHTML compliance –Use relative linking – to be explained in class

Additional Information The Test will involve you having to make some opinion statements/justification – these will be clearly requested in the documentation You will be able to refer to notes, online sources, access U drive etc.

Syntax Part 1: Top of the Document Use Strict or transitional DocType You should already have files with the appropriate code BUT if not –Use the sample template file on my Learn pages –Go to the W3C pages –

Syntax Part 2: Basic Differences - reminder XHTML is case sensitive – keep all tags lower-case In XHTML every element must have an end / very important: this elements content is usually targeted by search engines spiders,,

Attributes You will see these a lot.To be valid they must be name=value eg. Think of attributes as informing or describing CSS is the way to web design

Inline and Block Elements Examples of inline (does not break the text flow) –,,, Examples of block (starts and finishes with a new line) –,,

Key Online Resources Killersites – reference guide to tags Visibone - Webmaster's Color Laboratory Visibone W3C Markup Validation Service Cascading Style Sheets at the W3C
