Census micro data – the solution to all our problems? The CENSUS project has the aim to test the IECM database in three major areas: Facility of access and use (IEDUB) Coverage, Quality, Comparability (ODE) Operational value for research (UR13-INED) CENSUS

Data from the IECM database to be used for the evaluation 7 countries, 22 censuses: –Belarus: 1999 –France: 1962, 1968, 1975, 1982, 1990 –Greece: 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001 –Hungary: 1970, 1980, 1990, 2001 –Portugal: 1981, 1991, 2001 –Romania: 1992, 2002 –Spain: 1981, 1991, 2001 CENSUS

Evaluation of facility of access and use of the IECM database (Under IEDUB responsibility ) =>Training of users and precautions for use CENSUS

Planned outcome: Training for users and complementary and sequential training courses at beginners and advanced levels Hands on sessions Training or information sessions for the French-speaking Doctoral School in Demography and for the European Doctoral School in Demography CENSUS

Coverage and quality of the data (Under ODE responsibility) assess the completeness and accuracy of censuses and samples through demographic analysis of population data provided by the national institutes of statistics and IECM Special attention to continuity of information in each country and to international comparability among the 7 countries CENSUS

Operational value of the IECM database The prevalence and factors of multi- generational co-residence of adults CENSUS (Under UR13-INED responsibility)

Demographic interest: –Multi-generational co-residence - a topic of social relevance in southern and eastern Europe, with France acting as a benchmark Methodology: –A case study in order to test the possibilities of the IECM database –Combination of individual, household and geographical data in order to test flexibility in case of multilevel analysis –Test of national and international comparability of definitions, concepts, census characteristics CENSUS

So..... Census micro data – the solution to all our problems? We will let you know!!! CENSUS
