Mitigation Task Considerations: The NTHMP must be able to maneuver itself to carry out its goals and objectives as defined by TWEA TWEA says both mitigation and preparedness as activities to be carryout by the NTHMP Mission statement needed to be used a guide for what the NTHMP needs to accomplish

Recommended Definitions Recommended definitions are: Mitigation: Any action taken to directly reduce or eliminate the risk to human life and property from a tsunami." Preparedness: “Any action taken to enhance response to a warning or threat.”

Mitigation Includes Signage for awareness Developing evacuation maps and inundation maps from inundation models Use of science and technology to identify and assess the hazard (e.g., DEMs and inundation models) Development and Implementation of Community Education and Outreach Programs Providing decision-makers with tools to develop tsunami hazard mitigation plans and procedures Support land use planning Support improved building codes, standards and practices

Preparedness Includes Signage for evacuation routes Providing decision-makers with tools to develop tsunami emergency response plans and procedures TsunamiReady Improving local (e.g., community-level) tsunami product reception and dissemination capabilities Emergency Response and Recovery Planning at every level of Government Public education, outreach, and awareness efforts
