The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) granted 1115 research and demonstration waivers to the Demonstration states and has provided ongoing oversight and technical assistance. The two funders sponsored the Interactive Data Website and Public Use Files, which were developed by the University of Maryland Center on Aging in collaboration with the Cash and Counseling National Program Office at Boston College. Welcome to the Cash and Counseling Interactive Data Website  The data presented here on service utilization, consumer satisfaction, and service quality are intended to help several audiences.  Researchers may want to explore simple questions prior to conducting more complex analyses with the full public use data files.  Others, such as policymakers and program administrators, may want quick information on variables of interest.

What You Will Find on the Interactive Data Website  This site provides descriptive statistics and cross-tabulations of selected variables from the CCDE baseline, 4/6 month, and 9 month surveys for Arkansas, New Jersey and adults in Florida.  Chi-Square statistics and tests of statistical significance are presented for participants who were randomized to the cash option condition vs. participants randomized to the traditional services condition.  Numerous sub-group analyses are available, including sub- analysis by age, race, and living arrangement.

What is NOT on the Interactive Data Website  This site is not intended to substitute for the in-depth reports that have been prepared on many topics for this research project, (please see  This site does not present information about Florida children, program costs, or data from the paid and informal worker surveys.  This site is also not intended to substitute for vigorous on-going analysis of this data.  We encourage interested researchers to consider working with the full public use data files

What Variables You Will Find on the Interactive Data Website At right are the categories of data that are included on the interactive data website. Each category includes many variables, For example the category: Characteristics of client respondents Includes the following variables:  What is the client's gender?  What is the client's age?  What is the client's race?  Is the client of Hispanic origin?  Is the client married?  What is the client's educational background?  How does the client rate his/her health now?  Does the client live with others?  Does the client have any unpaid help?  How many unpaid helpers did the client have last week?  How many paid helpers did the client have last week?  Did the client have a representative at baseline?  Is the client a new or continuing PAS applicant?  In what type of area does the client live?  Has the client ever supervised a worker?  Has the client ever hired someone privately?  In what language was the interview conducted? CCDE Public Use Files  A quick registration is required to download the public use files.  Files may be downloaded in SAS or SPSS format.  Additional documentation files, including the original survey instruments and variable frequencies, are easily downloaded from the site.  A FAQ link should answer many common questions about the data and its uses.
