WELCOME TO WORSHIP stsimonspartick.org.uk SUNDAY 5 Year of Luke ASH WED 13 FEB

ENTRY Christ be near at either hand Christ behind, before me stand Christ with me where’er I go Christ around, above, below. Christ be in my heart and mind Christ within my soul enshrined Christ control my wayward heart Christ abide and ne’er depart. Praise the Father source of all love Praise the Son who reigns above Praise Holy Spirit comfort in need Praise on our lips in our hearts and our deeds

Penitential Rite Kyrie Eleison Christe Eleison Kyrie Eleison (Greek: Lord/Christ/Lord have mercy)

THE WORD for the rest of 2013 will be based on Gospel of Luke except during Lent and Easter

OLD TESTAMENT ISAIAH Here I am, Lord !

Psalm 138: Response I thank you for the wonder of my being I thank you

EPISTLE 1 st Corinthians St Paul’s profession of faith

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia (Hebrew: Hallel – u – Yah(weh) = Praise you the Lord)

GOSPEL LUKE From now on you will fish for people

APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL In response to the Gospel anyone may try and say a prayer, ending: Lord in your mercy….. Missal suggests 4 intentions That our church might….. That our society might….. That our parish might….. At this special time we might.. PLEASE NOTE: these prayers are for us here. Those who are absent (the poor, refugees, sick, dead etc) should be remembered at the “memento” during the Eucharistic prayer

There is no plate collection here unless for a previously intimated good cause. SUNDAYS IN LENT for retired clergy except 4 th Sunday for SCIAF If you wish to support your place of worship you should do this through your bank or the envelope system. Forms in sacristy. Box at back for visitors’ donations. Year of Faith: Names for plaque = Yellow form at back Year of Faith: Stained Glass appeal = Green form at back

MARDI GRAS / PANCAKE TUE We live in a country where people think Carnival is part of the circus at Christmas. It means Carne – Vale, Latin for Flesh – Farewell (tho only for 40 days) Those who don’t celebrate Carnival won’t observe Lent Those who don’t observe Lent won’t appreciate Easter. Those who don’t celebrate Easter won’t renew Baptism. Pray that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the Almighty Father May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy church

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER The Lord be with you And with your spirit Lift up your hearts We lift them up to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right and just PREFACE TO THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

SANCTUS (Schubert) Holy holy holy, Lord God of hosts (x2) Heaven and earth are full, full of your glory Hosanna in the highest (x2) Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest (x2)

PROCLAMATION OF FAITH We proclaim your death O Lord and profess your resurrection until you come again, until you come again.

GREAT AMEN

THE LORD’S PRAYER If English is not your first language you are encouraged to say this prayer in the language in which you first learned it …..for the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. The peace of the Lord be with you always: and with your spirit.

Agnus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis (x2) (Latin: Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us Agnus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem ……grant us peace. Please kneel

Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

COMMUNION CHANT Take and eat, take and eat This is my body given up for you. Take and drink, take and drink This is my blood given up for you

Raphael

Lord you have come to the lakeside looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones you only asked me to follow humbly O Lord with your eyes you have searched me, kindly smiling, have spoken my name now my boat’s on the shoreline behind me by your side I will seek other seas. You need my hands full of caring thro my labours to give others rest and constant love that keeps on loving. You who have fished other oceans ever longed for by souls who are waiting my loving friend, as thus you call me.

Deacon: Go in the peace of Christ glorifying the Lord with your life. Response: Thanks be to God ! Now follow the cross and the SVdP member out on to the street !
