Whole Class Review Close Reading Approach – Asking guiding questions as you begin reading the text will help to focus your attention for close reading. Close readers read with a purpose in mind. Examination – Initial questions will lead to examining the text’s topic, information, and structure. Question Further – After an initial observation, devise narrower, more specific questions and read on to investigate the text. Analysis – Analyze (and mark) key details and language to deepen your understanding. Explain – Explain what you understand from asking questions and investigating the text in order to answer them. Summarize in the margins or on a sheet of paper to track your understanding.

Classwork Activity Close Reading – Refer to your notes on close reading, and, as we view the following images, consider the following questions: – What is going on in each image? – What stands out to me as I examine each image? Next, write down 3-5 details that you notice about each image.
