Air Masses and Fronts. What are air masses? Large Bodies of air Form when the air over a large region sits in one place for many days – The air gradually.
Severe Storms. Thunderstorms Occur in warm, moist air masses and along fronts. Sinking rain, cooled air, and strong updrafts of warm air cause strong.

Intertropical Coverage Zone (ITCZ) Location- near the equator but varies throughout the year Effects on weather- creates seasons including wet and dry seasons near the equator

Air Circulation Sun warms cool air causing it to rise Cool air sinks and forms high winds Cool air sinks to the ground Cool air picks up moisture at the ground

How Stoms Form When two air masses of different temperatures Come together Some bring light rain while some bring heavy snow

Extreme Storms Tropical cyclones- storms that forms over oceans in the tropics Tornadoes- high wind speeds of up to 250 miles per hour Hurricane- covers large areas with lower wind speeds than tornadoes

Other Storms and World Precipation Blizzards- severe snow storm Rain levels increase near the equator More rain occurs there due to the ITCZ winds
