Unit 2: The Stock Market Lesson 6: Economic Indicators Day 1

Lesson Objective  SWBAT assess the effects of economic indicators on the value of their stock portfolios.

WOTD/Initial Activity  Lagging Economic Indicator  A measurable economic factor that changes after the economy has already begun to follow a particular pattern or trend.  Leading Economic Indicator  Economic series that tend to rise or fall in advance of the rest of the economy.  Initial Activity  Base you answer on your own opinion  What are 5 different things that, if you observed them happening in our country, you would assume that our economy was growing stronger or weaker?

Activity 1: Economic Indicators WebQuest  Focus Question: How do investors use economic indicators to choose which stocks to invest in?  Directions: Collect a computer and then create a SIMPLE definition for each of the economic indicators on your worksheet and also when the indicator is published.  You may work in groups and split up the work load as you want  Complete only the definition section, not the stock example section!  Share Out & Chart Definitions on Board
