5 Greek Words for Love Mania - manic love or outright obsession; Eros - erotic, romantic love, but can turn to lust; Philos - is a brotherly or friendship love that says “I love who we are together, the commitment we have to each other.” Storgy - family love or a love between a parent and child; Agape is the word that Paul uses here and this describes how God loves us, unconditionally with no strings attached. The lover loves someone else without expecting love in return.

I John 3:14 (NIV) 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. I Juan 3:14 (NVI) 14 Nosotros sabemos que hemos pasado de la muerte a la vida porque amamos a nuestros hermanos. El que no ama permanece en la muerte.

What Love Is Not Does Not Envy. Much of the division in Corinthian church is caused by jealousy and strife, Does Not Boast - being a windbag—it is all about me!, Not Arrogant - puffed up even when their conduct toward Paul and their fellow Christians is so unchristian and unholy, they still speak of being spiritual. Such conduct does not build up the church, but blows it up. Not Rude - to act shamefully or disgracefully, Not Self-Seeking - finding one self is the highest good, self-worth, self-justification, self-gain more than what is best for my neighbor and enemy.

What Love Is Not Not Easily Angered - not easily provoke to anger by what others say or do. Keeps no record of wrongs - does not seek revenge or to even the score, does not hold a grudge, but like God did for us in Christ in not reckoning our sins against us, so agape love forgives the evil done against one, and is gracious. Does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth - does not gossip about misdeeds of others, not gladden when someone else falls, but looks for mercy and justice for all, even for those who disagree with them, and can lovingly respond to the uncomfortable truth about oneself.

What Love Is Patient - suffers long, suffers injustice with goodwill. Kind - tender hearted, forgiving, made up of mildness. Always Protects, Trusts, Hopes, Perseveres - bears all things, believes all things, never loses faith or hope, but expresses confidence in what God can do in the life of others, no hopeless cases, love is not gullible, but will not give up on the power of God’s love displayed through a Christian in the life of another. It never collapses in defeat.
