Prahova County, Romania

 Prahova is a county of Romania, in the historical region Muntenia, with the capital city at Ploieşti.

 Prahova Valley is the valley where the river Prahova makes its way through the Bucegi and Baiu Mountains, in the Carpathian Mountains, Romania. It is a tourist region, situated about 100 km north of the capital city of Bucharest. Prahova Valley, as seen from the Caraiman Mountain

 The Heroes' Cross is a historical monument built in memory of our heroes, who died in the 1 st World War.

 Located in Sinaia, Peleş Castle is considered by many one of the most beautiful castles in all Europe. It was the final resting place for several Romanian monarchs including King Carol I, who died here in 1914.

The city of the Black Gold

 The stem of Ploieşti is composed of a blue shield, with two gold lions, holding a silver tree. Everything is above a red scarf with the initials “M.V.V” from “Mihai Viteazul Voievod”(in English “Michael the Brave”). On top of the stem there is a crown. Two lions uprooting an oak tree.

The community is first mentioned in documents in 1503, but archaeological researches have identified piles of dwellings from 14 th century that belonged to a rural settlement.

 In the mid-19 th century, Ploieşti region was one of the world's leading oil extraction and refinery sites. Astra Romana Refinery

 In 1948, the “Petroleum and Gas Institute” was founded in Bucharest and had a rapid development. Everybody agreed that its place is in Ploieşti, therefore between 1966 and 1973 it was moved here. A completely new, modern and functional campus was created.

Ploieşti is home of the National Oil Museum, illustrating the history of Romanian oil industry as well as the petroleum science and technology.
