Objectives Students will learn: What an application is Commands that are common with applications The function of basic commands

Application? What is an application? Is it the same as an app? Does it mean appetizer? NO!

So what is an application? Software that allows you to perform a task or job. Applications for desktops/laptops are sometimes called desktop applications Applications for mobile devices are usually called apps

Types of Applications Countless desktop/mobile applications but there are only 2 categories. 2-Categories Full-featured Gadget/Widget

Full-Featured Applications Perform many different tasks Examples: Microsoft Word Web Browser (Internet Explorer) Power Point Games Media Players

Gadgets/Widgets Perform only 1 or 2 jobs Clock/Calendar Taskbar Calculator Start Menu

Commands A command tells an application to perform a task. Siri is an example of an application. “Siri find me a good restaurant.” This is an example of a command. Microsoft Office products have several commands.
