TECH POINT 1 Referral/Application Reaching Successful Employment Outcomes with Assistive Technology

Introduction

Learning Objectives 1.Describe tasks and activities that should be accomplished at TECH POINT 1. 2.Describe four techniques to recognize potential AT needs. 3.Identify reasonable accommodations that may be needed to start the rehabilitation process.

What to accomplish at TECH POINT 1 4. Recognize potential need for AT services 1. Review background information 3. Identify immediate reasonable accommodation needs 2. Discuss any experiences using AT Consider need for rehabilitation technology resources and services for all applicants. Decisions on vocational potential should include how technology resources/services could improve or enhance performance.

Anticipate Accommodation Needs Comprehension? Seating/position? Communication?Mobility? Other accommodation needs Writing? Readiness? Stamina? Interactions with others?

Recognizing AT Needs Previous experiences using AT? Explore Challenges and Problems? Talk with Technology Specialists

Major Life Activities Caring for oneself; Performing manual tasks; Walking, Seeing, Hearing, Speaking or breathing; Learning, or Working. Other examples could include: Physical activities such as: sitting, standing, or lifting, Mental and emotional processes such as: thinking, concentrating, and interacting with others. (ADA, 2008)
