Fall Trees By Ms. Elizabeth Schnepp

Autumn Colors  In Autumn we see trees with many different and beautiful colors.  What are some colors you might see?  Red, yellow, green, orange, purple, and brown.

Why do some trees change color?  Not all trees change colors. Some stay green all throughout winter, while others sometimes lose their leaves.  Let’s find out why some trees change leaf colors and lose their leaves and while others stay green all year long.

Two Types of Trees  There are two types of trees.  Coniferous and Deciduous.  Lets take a look at these two types of trees.

Coniferous Trees  Coniferous trees are also called evergreen trees because they are green all year long.  Some of us may use this type of tree to string lights on for their Christmas trees.

Trees with needles  Coniferous trees have NEEDLES, not leaves.

Deciduous Trees  Deciduous Trees do NOT stay green all year long.  In the fall these trees change colors.  These type of trees are also called broad leaf trees.

Trees with leaves  Deciduous trees have leaves. There are many shapes of leaves.

But WHY do they drop their leaves?  The trees drop there leaves because they have to conserve their energy.  Animals store food/fat for the winter. Trees lose their leaves.
