Treaty of Velasco Who? David Burnet Sam Houston Santa Anna

Treaty of Velasco When? May 14, 1836

Treaty of Velasco Where? San Jacinto

Treaty of Velasco Why? Santa Anna was captured by Sam Houston. David Burnet worked out the negotiations

Treaty of Velasco What? Two treaties were signed on May 14, one public and one secret. The public treaty ended the war. Mexico vowed never to attack Texas again. The Mexican army had to withdraw troops south of the Rio Grande. Each side had to release their prisoners.

Treaty of Velasco What? The secret treaty stated that Mexico would recognize Texas as a free nation and the Rio Grande would be the border between Texas and Mexico. Mexico later refused to accept the treaty because Santa Anna had signed it while he was a prisoner.
