Teacher Tips You will need to click the mouse to show the answers for activities. This will allow you to control the timing of answers shown. Click on triangle in left corner of slide to select writing pen. Click on triangle and choose pointer options to hide pen before going to next slide. We suggest that students keep a journal. It is critical for students to use writing skills to explain their answers. Please take time to discuss possible solutions to problems. Frequently there will be more than one way to solve a problem.

The following lesson is addressing these standards: Make, read, and interpret multiple representations including tables, charts and graphs of data. (MO1.5, 1.8, 3.3) Analyze information based on data collected. (MO 1.7, 3.4, 3.6) Click here to return to beginning

Mrs. Jenkins wanted to see if she had a class that enjoyed walking. She wanted this information to help her decide on the type of field trips she would take this year. She decided to take a survey to determine this information, so she asked her class to keep track of the miles each walked over the weekend.

Here are the results of her survey:

What is the mean of the total miles the class walked? Add all the miles and divide by 20.

Mrs. Jenkins made a graph to tell her more about her class Stem and Leaf Graph

What is the range of the data?

What is the mode of the data? Most frequent number

What is the median of the data? =25 Middle Numbers 25/2 = 12.5

Should Mrs. Jenkins take her class on a walking field trip based on the data?

Based on the data in the survey, explain in your journal why or why not Mrs. Jenkins should go on a walking field trip with her class. Click here to return to beginning
