MVES Invention Convention

Objectives Students will design and create their own invention using simple machines Your machine will have practical applications and will be designed to solve a problem You will identify simple machines with the class You will research inventors

Your Invention!  Your Invention should show knowledge of simple machines.  All work on a project must be done by YOU. Your parents and teachers may advise you and help, but they cannot design or build any part of the invention.  Dangerous chemicals, open flames, explosives and poisonous animals may not be exhibited. No projects may deal with or include vertebrate animals, meat, mold fungus, or mushrooms.

Important Dates Inventions should be started the weekend of October 25 th (the brainstorming and planning). Your invention is a HOME PROJECT. You are required to bring a completed invention and display board to school on Monday, December 15 th. The 2014 Invention Convention will be Thursday, December 18 th. We will invite your parents and our Monte Vista Wolf Pack to our convention to see all of your inventions.

Invention Display Board III. Materials III. Materials (list what you use) (list what you use) IV. Simple Machines Used V. SHARE (What did you learn? Did it solve your problem) I.Name of your invention II. What is the problem you are trying to solve? VI. Procedures/Steps Brainstorm, Design Brainstorm, Design Build Build Test/evaluate Test/evaluate Re-design Re-design Make sure you Document all of the steps you Used!

Materials This will be a list of what you will need to create your invention List everything that you will need to build and operate your invention You may number your materials or bullet them Everyone will have different materials

Procedures/Steps These will be all the steps in the Design Process that you took in creating your invention: Brainstorm Design BUILD Test/Evaluate (Why do you have to re-design) Re-design These steps should be numbered in the correct order (sequence) that you followed when you were building your invention.

Design Process Identify the problem Brainstorm Design Build Test/Evaluate/Redesign Share Identify Problem Brainstorm Design Build Redesign Test Share Design Process

Conclusion  What did you learn from creating this invention?  Did you solve the problem you identified?  What worked very well in this experiment? What did not work?  Do you think that you could patent this invention? Why or Why not?  What would you do differently next time?
