It’s Showtime! STAAR Tips just for you…

Order of Operations

Rational Operations

Percent means “Out of 100” Example: 5% = = 0.05 Example: 40% of 10= 0.4 x 10 = 4

Proportions 1) Remember to LABEL!! 2) “out of every” means you can make a ratio or fraction. Example: Out of every 10 people, 3 have a car. If there are 40 people, how many have a car?

Scale Factor

Percent of Change

% Tax, Tips, or Discounts Change the % to a decimal and multiply! Tax or Tips Add to the total amount of $ Discount----- Subtract from the total amount of $

Assets and Liabilities Assets- things you own (positive) –Paid Off car/house, Furniture, clothes, savings account, etc… Liabilities- things you owe (negative) –“Payoff” on house/car, credit card, etc… Net worth- Subtract: Assets - Liabilities

USE your STAAR CHART for all Measurement Questions!!!

VOLUME B means “AREA of the BASE” Plug in the area formula for that base!!! SHOW YOUR STEPS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ruler Make sure to check if the question asks you to measure inches or centimeters? Example: 1 in Example: 1.6 or 1 = 1 cm

Probability Reminders If they want 2 or more events to happen, get the probability of each one and multiply the fractions Independent events- spinners, # cubes, you DO replace the item Dependent events- you DO NOT replace the item (the denominator and sometimes numerator will change for each new fraction.

Solving Equations and Inequalities

Y = mx + b

USE YOUR TIME WISELY!! You have 4 hours! Use it! Read carefully. Reread the question. Take notes below each question. Bubble every question.

Eat Breakfast

What to bring tomorrow? *Two #2 pencils *Highlighter (Only use it for questions with pictures, like angles.) *A book to read in case you finish early.

You are PREPARED!! You’re Awesome! You’re smart! Mrs. Gonzalez believes in you!! You will do so well on the test!!

Double check your math steps and scratch work as you go… They will expect you to make silly mistakes, don’t let them “trick you”

Answering Questions Bubble lightly on your scantron in case you need to erase. Bubble as you go. Don’t let yourself guess on questions often, just skip hard ones and go back.

Most Importantly… Use Your Math Chart!!! Tear it out! You cannot write on it.

Underline the question, Does your answer choice answer the question you underlined? Highlight or circle key words.

Don’t let one question drain your energy! If you need to, skip a question and come back to it later. Circle it so you won’t forget about it. You might find help later in the test that will help, or you might remember something. Read it several times and look for clues in the answers. If all else fails, eliminate any answers you think are wrong, then guess. Probability improves your chances of getting the right answer.

Bubble your Scantron as you go… At the end of each page. Make sure your fingers are clean before you touch your answer sheet. If you make a mistake erase it completely.

Circle-Bubble-check a a a Circle: Outline the answer choice. a Bubble: Fill in your choice. Check: Look for stray marks to erase

Focus - When both feet are on the floor and you are sitting up straight you can concentrate better.

I believe in you! Do your very best tomorrow. Your teachers are proud of you and believe that you can do this! Believe in yourself…. Rest well tonight and relax tomorrow~ please know that you are awesome
