The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health

The ICF is the integrative model of functioning and disability The ICF provides a muti-dimensinal framework for describing human functioning and disability

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health ICF Approved by the World Health Assembly in May 2001

The structure and codes of the ICF The ICF has two parts, each with two components Part 1: Functioning and Disability a) Body Functions and Structures b) Activities and Participation Part 2: Contextual Factors a) Environmental Factors b) Personal Factors

ICF and ICD (Classification of Disease)  Function and disability is not just the result of disease, and associated with many factors  Diagnosis (ICD) can not provide enough information to health  Patients with the same diagnosis may have different level of function, patients with different diagnosis may have similar level of function.  The ICF as the supplement of the ICD

Clinical use  In clinical settings ICF is used for functional status assessment, goal setting & treatment planning and monitoring, as well as outcome measurement.  At international level WHO is exploring the use of ICF to measure health outcomes and guide disability management

 the Uniform Data Set for Medical Rehabilitation, starting in 1983  Today, over 1,400 facilities in the United States,  Uruguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, and Mexico subscribe to UDSMR,  the databases include over 16 million patient assessments.  UDSMR is not free, and lack of environmental factors and personal factors

We will set up Chinese Uniform Database For Medical Rehabilitation based on ICF
