Testing for gases L/O – To know how to test for different gases

How could you find out what gas is in this jar? It must be oxygen because it is see through like the oxygen in the air We could breathe it in to see if it is oxygen We could sniff it to see if it smells We could see what it reacts with

Each of the equations you are going to be given produce a gas. Your task is to identify each gas Testing for Oxygen Oxygen will relight a glowing splint Testing for Hydrogen Place a lit splint in the gas and it gives a ‘squeaky pop’ Testing for Carbon Dioxide Bubble the gas through limewater and it turns it cloudy Magnesium + Hydrochloric Acid Calcium Carbonate + Hydrochloric Acid Manganese Dioxide + Hydrogen Peroxide

Can you use your findings to finish off the equations? Magnesium + Hydrochloric Acid  Magnesium Chloride + ……………………… Calcium Carbonate + Hydrochloric Acid  Calcium Chloride + Water + ……………… Manganese Dioxide + Hydrogen Peroxide  Manganese Dioxide + water + ……….

How could you find out how much oxygen was in this Jar?
