IETF 531 DNS Discovery Update draft-ietf-ipv6-dns-discovery-04.txt Dave Thaler

IETF 532 Status as of last meeting Pefined two levels of functionality –Level 1: Deployable now, no protocol needed Just use defaults –Level 2: Supports more complex configurations Requires protocol work Lack of consensus how to do L2 Push from customers to get at least L1 ASAP

IETF 533 Changes since last time Draft now concentrates only on Level 1 Compliance Level 2 Compliance moved to appendix –(Short) general discussion of typical parameters used by hosts remains in main draft Removed most discussion of anycast (left to future study) Removed most discussion of MDNS (left to MDNS draft)

IETF 534 Level 1 Compliance DNS Server List: { fec0:0:0:ffff::1, fec0:0:0:ffff::2, fec0:0:0:ffff::3 } –Compatible with other draft reserving SLA=ffff for IANA assignments Own domain name: MAY do a PTR lookup on fec0:0:0:ffff::1 and use domain name in NS record Search path: same as today (e.g., computed from own domain name)

IETF 535 Proposal Finish cleaning up draft (e.g. probably remove “stateless” wording) Remove appendix, leaving Level 2 for future work Publish Level 1 as RFC (what status?)
