Studies in Philippians The Joy of Spiritual Fellowship

Paul’s Relationship With The Philippians "I thank my God in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now!" (1:5) This relationship of church and preacher can be one of great joy!

The joy of spiritual fellowship to the receiver! But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me...

It is not the mere joy of receiving money! –Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. It is the joy of knowing someone really cares for you. –But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity”.

It is the joy of knowing someone appreciates the blessings they have received through your teaching. –“...no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving”. –“I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will repay it (lest I should mention to you that you owe to me even your own self as well).” –But I have received everything in full,

The joy of spiritual fellowship to the givers It is the joy of having a share in the fruit of the teacher’s work. –“Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account” (Phil. 4:17).

It is the joy of making an offering to God that really pleases Him. –It was“ a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God” (Phil. 4:18). It is the joy of knowing that God will supply our needs. –And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Let us find joy in helping the work of preaching the gospel. Think of the fruit that comes to our account as souls are won and lives are changed. And then remember that our faith in giving assures that God will meet our needs as well.
