Mud salamander. We conducted surveys of historical mud salamander habitats in Charles County (Nanjemoy watershed) was the only place we found any.

Samp darter – rare fish. Zekiahs swamp has some of the largest populations in the state

Rainbow Snake. A beautiful and very rare stream dwelling snake. It apparently eats almost exclusively eels. In MD they are only found in Charles County and were thought to be extirpated until 2007 when someone found one.

Dragonflies – there are many rare species of dragonflies in MD. Charles County (especially Zekiahs Swamp) has lots of them. The young (larval) dragonflies live in freshwater streams and are predators on other insects and sometimes fish and tadpoles too. Larval dragonfly

Mattawoman Creek 8 th ranked for freshwater species richness (137 watersheds) Largemouth bass nursery area 4 native freshwater mussel species 6 RTE species Longnose gar Largemouth Bass - juvenile

Flier. Pretty fish found only in Charles and Saint Marys Counties parts of MD

Warmouth. Pretty fish found only in Charles and Saint Marys Counties parts of MD

Spotted turtle. One of the states Greatest Conservation Need species. It is fairly abundant in wooded swamps of Charles County

Upland Chorus frogs are only found on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and are hard to find, but are abundant in some parts of Charles County

Would like to add some photos of zekiah, mattawoman, and nanjemoy. We have some, I just need to track them down.
