Contract Adult Day Health Care The Contract Adult Day Health Care program places eligible Veterans in outpatient day health settings, providing health maintenance and rehabilitative services to frail elderly persons at Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) expense.

Community Nursing Home The Contract Community Nursing Home program places eligible Veterans requiring nursing home care in community nursing facilities at VA expense. The Contract Community Nursing Home Program has the advantage of being offered in many local communities where Veterans can receive care near their home and families. Placements may be authorized after all other home and community-based care options have been explored.

Homemaker/Home Health Aide The Homemaker/Home Health Aide program provides at VA expense non-medical personal care assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), health monitoring, and other specific household tasks necessary for the maintenance of the Veteran in his/her own home.

Community Residential Care The Community Residential Care Program provides room, board, and limited personal care and supervision to Veterans who do not require hospital or nursing home care, but are not able to live independently because of medical or psychiatric conditions, and have no family to provide care. The Veteran pays for the cost of this living arrangement. Medical and psychiatric care is provided to the Veteran primarily on an outpatient basis at VA facilities. Home visits are made by VA social workers.

Outpatient Respite Care The Outpatient Respite Care Program provides respite care in a non-institutional setting, i.e. in the home, CADHC, or nursing home setting. Respite care is care designed to relieve a caregiver from the physical and emotional burden of caring for chronically ill and disabled Veterans in the home. With the passage of PUB.L.106-117, respite care services have been expanded to include home and community-based care alternatives in addition to the institutional options traditionally provided.
