The first woman to go into space was Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova. She has several awards : Hero of the Soviet Union. Hero of the Soviet Union. Order of Honour. Order of Honour. Order of Friendship. Order of Friendship. And others… Who was the first woman to go into space?

Valentina Tereshkova was born in the village Maslennikovo (6 March, 1937 ). After the flight of Yuri Gagarin in 1961, Sergey Korolyov, the chief Soviet rocket engineer, came up with the idea of putting a woman in space. And this woman was Valentina. Then Tereshkova studied at the Zhukovsky Air Force Academy and graduated with distinction as a cosmonaut engineer. In 1977 she earned a doctorate in engineering. Her biography.  On 16 February, 1962, Valentina Tereshkova was selected to join the female cosmonaut corps. Out of more than four hundred applicants, five were selected: Tatyana Kuznetsova, Irina Solovyova, Zhanna Yorkina, Valentina Ponomaryova, and Valentina Tereshkova. Qualifications included that they should be parachutists under 30 years of age, under 170 cm  (5 feet 7 inches) tall, and under 70 kg (154 lbs.) in weight. Maiden flight and its aftermath.

Svetlana Yevgenyevna Savitskaya is a former Soviet aviator and cosmonaut who flew aboard Svetlana Yevgenyevna Savitskaya is a former Soviet aviator and cosmonaut who flew aboard Soyuz T-7 in 1982, becoming the second woman in space some 19 years after Valentina Tereshkova. She was born on August 8, Svetlana became the first woman to perform a space walk on July 25, Svetlana Savitskaya.

Yelena Vladimirovna Kondakova (March 30, 1957) was the third Russian female cosmonaut to travel to space and the first woman to make a long-duration spaceflight. Her first trip into space was on Soyuz TM-20 on October 4, She returned to Earth on March 22, 1995 after a five-month stay at the Mir space station. Kondakova was born in Mytishchi in the Moscow Region of Russia and is married to fellow cosmonaut Valeri Ryumin. She was selected as a cosmonaut candidate in 1989.Since 1999, Kondakova has served as a deputy in the Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament. Elena Kondakova.
