8 Graduate Medical Education at Mercy Mercy has supported residency programs in this community without reservation Started the first medical/surgical internship at St. Vincent in 1894 Received Northwest Ohio’s first graduate medical education accreditation in 1920 After the founding of Medical College of Ohio, St. Vincent helped MCO get its residency programs started In , residents were asked to leave an area hospital in the middle of an academic year – St. Vincent absorbed all 22 residents

9 Graduate Medical Education at Mercy Mercy Health Partners is committed to the success of UT-COM Historically, Mercy Health Partners has had long-term, uninterrupted academic agreements with the University of Toledo (MCO) which have benefited the community Currently, we are operating under a five-year academic agreement with UT, which further demonstrates a steady commitment to medical education

10 Osteopathic Residencies at Mercy When Parkview Hospital closed in 1996, Mercy stepped in to give 21 osteopathic residents a home and to preserve the program and future physicians for the benefit of the community As a result, MHP was a founding member of Consortium of Osteopathic Research and Education with the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine Programs expanded in 2003 to meet community need Currently 60% of osteopathic students stay in Northwest Ohio to practice medicine in areas such as family practice, obstetrics and surgery
