Transition Year in Ramsgrange CS By: Ms Louise Walsh

What is Transition Year? Transition Year is a one-year programme after Junior cycle and before Senior cycle. It is an extra year optional programme It acts as a bridge between Junior and Senior Cycle, by facilitating the smooth transition from the more dependent learning of the Junior Cycle to the more independent self-directed learning of the Senior Cycle

Transition Year History First introduced into Schools in 1973 In 501 schools by the Year 2000 Approx 70-75% of all post-primary schools offer the programme It is compulsory in 30% of school. Ramsgrange CS have offered and run a very successful TY programme for the past number of years

How do we in Ramsgrange CS help Students achieve these Aims? Firstly - we provide a broad subject range to keep students engaged with many core and important subject areas throughout their Transition Year. Secondly – within these subject areas we have flexibility to offer a more tailored tuition to suit the ability levels and interests of the students, while still giving them ample opportunity to engage in valuable learning experiences without the pressure of examination
