RCW 43.101.200 Provide basic law enforcement training to all law enforcement personnel starting within six months of their date of hire. Mandated Agencies: Cities, Counties, Universities, and Fish and Wildlife Non-Mandated Agencies: Tribal, Gambling, Liquor Control, Parks, Arson Investigators, DNR

Class Size As part of the 2012-2013 Final Compromise Budget the following narrative was attached to the CJTC budget. The Criminal Justice Training Commission may not run a Basic Law Enforcement Class of fewer than 30 students.

Cost if your Recruit Withdraws Total $3283.33 Your agency will be charged for the position your candidate occupies regardless of successful graduation. RCW 43.101.200 Now includes this verbiage except during the 2011-2013 fiscal biennium when the employing, county, city[,] or state law enforcement agency shall reimburse the commission for twenty-five percent of the cost of training its personnel.

Creating a class list When the appropriate form CJ-1250 is submitted your recruit is placed on the class list by order of date received. As required by legislation, class size is 30 Recruits Mandated Agencies get first priority Non-Mandated Recruits get on the list if there are less than 30 mandated or if their recruit was an alternate for the previous class. All Alternates automatically get bumped into the next class if they pass the PAT. PAT is mandatory every time. Alternates are needed in the event someone fails the PAT or drops out in the Academy in first two days of a BLEA session.

Entry Process In order for an application to be processed, the applicants background, polygraph, psychological must be completed, and a conditional offer of employment must be made. Applications should be turned in prior to the posted Selection date. Forms needed for application to BLEA Application Form CJ 1250 Applicants must be finger-printed by the employing agency. All forms are on the CJTC Web-site under BLEA, it’s best to download the most current forms for each applicant.

WAC 139-05-230 Agency filings affecting this section Physical requirements for admission to basic law enforcement academy. Each successful applicant for admission to a basic law enforcement academy sponsored or conducted by the commission must possess good health and physical capability to actively and fully participate in defensive tactics training and other required physical activities. In order to minimize risk of injury and maximize the benefit of such participation, each recruit in any academy session must, as a precondition of his or her academy attendance, demonstrate a requisite level of physical fitness, as established by the commission. For this purpose, each academy applicant will be assessed in the areas of aerobic capacity, strength, and flexibility, in accordance with the requirements and procedures established by the commission. Failure to demonstrate a requisite level of fitness will result in ineligibility for academy admissions and/or attendance.
