Can Obamacare Work in the US? GROUP 3 PEI-YING CHEN YI-PING CHEN

What is Obamacare?  The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called the Affordable Care Act(ACA) is a United States federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, ObamaCare Facts Image Public Domain, Photo by Chuck Kennedy; U.S. Government Work

Obamacare main focus  To extend health insurance coverage to some of the estimated 15% of the US population who lack it.  Providing more Americans with access to affordable health insurance,  Improving the quality of health care and health insurance,  Regulating the health insurance industry, and  Cost controlling :reduce the cost of insurance by bringing younger, healthier people into the health insurance system

Is the Affordable Care Act Working?  Has the percentage of uninsured people been reduced? The Number of Americans Without Health Insurance Is Down

Is the Affordable Care Act Working?  Did the Affordable Care Act improve health outcomes?  The best early data is on young people, and it suggests that the law is benefiting that group by allowing them to stay on their parents’ insurance. The share of 19- to 25- year-olds without health insurance declined to 21 percent in the first quarter of this year, from 34 percent in 2010, a reduction of about four million people.  Indicators for how well the law is working for older people are few, but one – screenings for colon cancer – shows marked growth, as screening rates for people with private insurance rose to 56 percent in 2012, from 48 percent in 2010

Is the Affordable Care Act Working?  Has the health care industry been helped or hurt by the law? Wall Street Analysts See Financial Boon Across the Health Care Spectrum

Is the Affordable Care Act Working?  How Medicaid enrollment has changed in each state States that expanded their programs under the law are shown in green. 24

Conclusions  Health insurance companies around the country are seeking rate increases of 20 percent to 40 percent or more, saying their new customers under the Affordable Care Act turned out to be sicker than expected. Federal officials say they are determined to see that the requests are scaled back.  It is good for poor and sick people, and according to the NEW YORK TIMES research, it is working now.  But in the long run, it could be a problem in the Republican states, because they do not approve it.  Compared to National Health Insurance in Taiwan, it may cause a great burden on fiscal budget.
