Greater responsibility Ownership of learning Awareness of own strengths and goals

At the end of Year 4 it is desirable that most children will be working within level 3B in Reading, Writing and Maths.

Healthy snacks only for playtime – no nut products Planners Reading Records/Oxford Tree Music lessons with Mr Yates on Mondays PE twice weekly, which includes swimming

Children will be given weekly homework tasks in their homework books. One Maths and English homework task (online or a written task) Spellings to learn for a weekly test Regular reading – for pleasure and for learning There may be additional research tasks as appropriate

Oxford Owl Purple Mash Education City Children will have their logins.

Key Stage 2 Sports Day Monday 18 th May SATs Monday 18 th May-Friday 22 nd May

Maths consists of two tests- Non Calculator 45mins Mental test of approximately 20mins English consists of three tests- Writing – a shorter 2o minute task and an extended 45 minute task Reading Comprehension paper 1hr Spelling Punctuation and Grammar Test.

Reading, Writing and Maths is continually assessed through independent tasks and teacher assessment collected throughout the year. Planning is adapted to meet the needs of each pupil and appropriate targets are set.

Talk to them about their work in school and any homework tasks given. If they are stuck try to get them to explain what they are trying to do – talking it through often shows a way forward. Help them and encourage them to take pride in their work and ownership of their learning. Make sure there is somewhere for them to work comfortably, perhaps at a table or desk. Do not stress about homework. Children work hard at school and need time to relax also. Make time for fun, rest hobbies and sports.

If possible, buy a dictionary and encourage children to use it. Use suitable websites, such as Education City, Oxford Owl, Purple Mash, the BBC Bitesize KS2 website and many more. Encourage clear, neat handwriting. Hear your child as often as possible and talk with them about what they have read, what might happen next, if they like it and so on – prompt cards. Model reading as a life skill and enjoyable activity.

Facebook Online games with chat features E-safety focus in school

RASHE is taught within the Catholic context of creating new life. In year 4 we focus on God the caring protector through the concept of fish. How do we know whether a fish is female or male? What is the difference between the male and female? How do the fish mate? How does the father protect its young? Who protects us?

If you have any questions Mr Williams, Miss Barnes and Mrs Chapman will be around after the meeting to answer any questions you may have.
