Insecticide / Nematicide Concept from A New Seed Applied Insecticide / Nematicide Concept from Bayer CropScience Lee Hall, Mike Schwarz and Charles Graham Bayer CropScience – Research Triangle Park, NC

AERIS™ Seed-Applied System Two broad spectrum active ingredients in one powerful combination : Imidacloprid: Systemic neonicotinoid insecticide with excellent activity against thrips and aphids. Thiodicarb: Systemic and contact carbamate pesticide for added protection from thrips, aphids, cutworm and protection from early-season root-knot and reniform nematode damage. Equlivant Ratios Imidacloprid: 0.375 mg ai / seed Thiodicarb: 0.375 mg ai / seed

AERIS™ Seed-Applied System AERIS™ Seed-Applied System offers broad spectrum early season protection from an insecticide, nematicide and an optional premium fungicide. Base Fungicide Package is automatically included. (Baytan / Thiram / Allegiance) Flexibility of choice BCS Premium Fungicide Package (TRILEX Advanced) OR Other “down-stream” offerings

AERIS™ Seed-Applied System - 2007 Custom Blend of imidacloprid + thiodicarb for application at seed companies. Fungicide Options Base Fungicide Package (Baytan/Thiram/Allegiance) Premium Fungicide Package (TRILEX Advanced) Custom Blend Imidacloprid: 0.375 mg ai / seed Thiodicarb: 0.375 mg ai / seed EXP 3 Federal Registration approved November 17, 2006

AERIS™ Seed-Applied System For the 2007 season, growers can request AERIS™ Seed-Applied System through the major cottonseed companies including Delta and Pine Land Company Stoneville Pedigreed Seed Company FiberMax Cotton Seed or by contacting their local Bayer CropScience field representative.

AERIS™ Seed-Applied System - 2008 In-can mix of imidacloprid + thiodicarb Registration of a 50:50 in-can for cotton use Label expected mid-’07 – Registered in all states for treatment “down-stream.” Fungicide Options Base Fungicide Package (Baytan/Thiram/Allegiance) Premium Fungicide Package (TRILEX Advanced) Bottom line: Grower will order AERIS™ Seed-Applied System in 2007 and 2008 and beyond.

Why Thiodicarb? Bayer CropScience has investigated the insecticidal and nematicidal efficacy of soil and seed applications of numerous active ingredients including thiodicarb and abamectin. The handling characteristics, physical properties and spectrum of activity of thiodicarb proved to be a much more attractive and promising product as compared to some other molecules. Thiodicarb is currently marketed globally as a seed treatment for crops such as cotton, corn, rice, soybean and vegetables for the control of aphids, thrips, seed maggots, termites and specific early season lepidopteran pests.

Imidacloprid and Thiodicarb: the right combination. Bayer CropScience has tested imidacloprid combinations with thiodicarb for the last several years. Bayer CropScience has also tested imidacloprid combinations with abamectin for the last several years and has full “Freedom to operate” with such combinations as covered by US Patent 6,444,690 B2 September 3, 2002. Bayer CropScience dropped abamectin seed treatment concepts because combinations of imidacloprid and thiodicarb are more convenient for seed-treaters, and provide more effective and broader spectrum of activity for growers.

AERIS™ Seed-Applied System AERIS Seed-Applied System provides the broadest spectrum of early-season insect and nematode protection of any currently available seed-applied option. Depending on local conditions AERIS™ Seed-Applied System provides up to 28 days of thrips protection up to 42 days of aphid protection suppression of early season fleahoppers and plantbugs; early season seedling protection from cutworm up to 28 days of nematode protection in low to moderate populations.
