Student Responsibilities When you signed up to attend the University You signed a statement that you would agree to live by the University Regulations Now you are here. It’s time to learn about what you signed. It is covered in UW Reg 8–30. The “What…”?

University Regulations The University Regulations are the set of Rules which Govern the University. There are also: Presidential Directives Trustee Bylaws Wyoming Constitution and State Statutes Federal Law

University Regulations The “University Regulations” title is still new. Formerly, we had the “UniRegs”. “New Regulatory Structure On July 17, 2008, the Board of Trustees adaopted (sic) a new regulatory structure. Former Trustee Regulations and University Regulations (UniRegs) have been combined into a single set of regulations called UW Regulations (UW Regs). Only the UW Board of Trustees may create new, amend or repeal UW Regs. “ Office of UW Counsel You may still hear people talking about the UniRegs. Hear “UW Regs” instead…

UW Regs The UW Regs are divided into Eight Sections 1. University Governance and Structure 2. Facilities 3. Business Practices 4. General Employment 5. Academic Personnel 6. Academic Policy 7. UW Reg 8-30 I. PURPOSE. The University of Wyoming is a community of scholars in which the ideals of freedom of inquiry, freedom of thought, and freedom of expression are sustained. The exercise and preservation of these freedoms require a respect for the rights of all in the community to enjoy them to the same extent. It is clear that in a community of learning, willful disruption of the educational process, destruction of property, and interference with the orderly process of the institution or with the rights of other members of the University of Wyoming cannot be tolerated. When students enter the University of Wyoming, they assume responsibilities and obligations, including satisfactory academic performance and social behavior consistent with the purpose of the institution. Student conduct, therefore, is not considered in isolation within the University community but as an integral part of the educational process. As such, students are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University. Students, like all members of the University community, assume the responsibility to conduct themselves in compliance with the objectives and standards of conduct established by the University of Wyoming.

UW Reg 8-30 III. GENERAL STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Every student has the right to all advantages, prestige and honors accruing to a student of this institution. The student retains the rights guaranteed under the Constitution and laws of the United States and the State of Wyoming, the right to pursue an education, and to receive a degree or certificate for the successful completion of its requirements. The University will establish and publish its rules concerning student conduct. The University will determine when its rules are violated and determine the appropriate course of action. By enrolling in the University of Wyoming, the student accepts the responsibility to comply with the University’s authority.

The Central Repository The University maintains a “Central Repository” in the Dean of Students Office. It contains information about Misconduct and Academic Dishonesty UW Reg Appeals, when an appeal was heard by the Board, to the Director, Office of Student Life, who will file these reports in the student's record. It is destroyed after seven years
