Research in Community Health Centers Purpose of Community Health Centers: We have constantly asked: What services and resources are required to impact the health of the individual communities we serve? Where will we obtain the resources we need? All community health centers ask the same question.

Research in Community Health Centers Why is this important? There are more than 1300 community health centers across U.S. and its Territories. CHCs serve more than 23 million patients in more than 9,000 locations CHCs patients are typically underserved consisting primarily of uninsured or underinsured, and low income individuals. CHCs will not turn anyone away because they cannot pay. A sliding fee scale is available for those who do not have the means to pay their bill. Yet, CHC’s are expected to provide high quality of services

Research in Community Health Centers Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) receive funding and other resources from: Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) in accordance with section 330 of a congressional mandate Revenue from patient encounters including:

Research in Community Health Centers – Medicaid and Medicare – Insurance payments – And, private payments – Additional funding and other supporting resources are obtained by competing and winning Federal and state grant opportunities Private foundations, i.e. RWJF, Kresge Foundation, etc. Corporate grants, I.e. Caremark, AstraZeneca, etc.
