Monday: Bell Work Write and solve the proportion Shawna reduced the size of a rectangle to a height of 2 in. What is the new width if it was originally 24 in wide and 12 in tall?

Agenda 1- bell work 2- Agenda *HW- TB P review of the words!! **Test Monday 12/8 4- Objective 5- lesson – Ratios/ Rates/ Proportion review 6- exit ticket

Vocabulary 1. Critique- a detailed analysis and assessment of something: evaluate (a theory or practice) in a detailed and analytical way 2. Precision-the degree to which the correctness of a quantity is expressed. 3. Transform- to simplify or solve a mathematical problem 4. Computation- using 4 basic operations (=, -, x, ÷) to solve a problem 5. Additive Inverse- The opposite of a number (+5, -5)

Lesson 7. RP.2. Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.

Ratio A ratio compares values. A ratio says how much of one thing there is compared to another thing. **Can be written 3 different ways: 3 to 2 3:2 3/2

Rate It is a comparison of measurements that have different units, like cents and grams. Example: 420 miles in 6 hours 420 mi/ 6 hrs UNIT RATE A unit rate is a rate with a denominator of 1. Example: 420 miles in 6 hours *divide 420/6 70 miles per 1 hour 70mi/1hr

Proportion Proportion states that two ratios are equivalent = 27 You can find equivalent proportions by: Scaling, cross multiplying, or simplifying

Solving Proportions 12 x 7 = 28 7x = 12(28) write an equation by cross multiplying1 7x = 336 ÷7 ÷7 x = 48

Solving Proportions 12 x 7 = 28 solve by scaling 7 x 4 = x 4 = 48

Review of Rate/Ratio/Proportion Text book problems to practice Ratios: p. 216 # 5-10 Rate: p. 220 #1-3, 9-11 Proportions: p. 224 #29, 31 and p. 228 # 11-14

Exit / Closure Partner discussion with neighbor (s) What is the difference between a rate and a unit rate?

Tuesday: Bell Work *HW on desk Write and solve the proportion Jenny was planning a trip to the United Arab Emirates. Before going, she did some research and learned that the exchange rate is 4 Dirhams for every $1. How many Dirhams would she get if she exchanged $5?

Agenda 1- bell work 2- Agenda *ws 3- vocabulary review test Monday 12/8 4- Objective 5- Check Homework 6- lesson *Similar Triangles 7- exit ticket

Lesson 7. RP.2. Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.

Vocabulary 6. Absolute Value- The distance of a number from zero on a number line 7. Algebraic Equation- math sentence that shows two equivalent expressions using variables and numbers 8. Numerical Equation- math sentence that shows two equivalent expressions using only numbers 9. Slope- measure of the steepness of a line on a graph (rise / run) 10. Unit Rate- rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit

Similar Triangles Similar Figures have the same shape but can be different sizes. The symbol ~ means similar.

Similar Triangles Corresponding Angles: The angles that are in the same position on two different figures. Corresponding Sides: The sides that are in the same position on two different figures. **sides must be proportional

Similar Triangles For figures to be similar: The corresponding angles must have the same measurement!!! (triangles = 180°) All the ratios of the corresponding sides must be proportional!!

Similar Triangles When naming figures list corresponding angles in the same order. ABC ~ DEF <A ~ <DAB ~ DE D B C A E F EE

Exit/ Closure Discuss with your neighbor... What is the total of all the angles in a triangle? …in a quadrilateral?

Wednesday: Bell Work *HW on desk Write and solve the proportion Answer the question. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. Round dollar amounts to the nearest cent. Asanji took a trip to Mexico. Upon leaving he decided to convert all of his Pesos back into dollars. How many dollars did he receive if he exchanged 42.7 Pesos at a rate of $5.30 = 11.1 Pesos?

Similar Triangles

Agenda 1- bell work 2- Agenda *in class problems- no homework 3- vocabulary review test Monday 12/8 4- Objective 5- Check Homework 6- lesson *Similar Triangles 7- exit ticket

Lesson 7. RP.2. Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.

Vocabulary 11. Ratio- A relationship between two quantities, normally expressed as the quotient of one divided by the other (written as a fraction, :, or to) 12. Proportional- when two ratios are equivalent 13. Graph- a diagram representing a system of connections among two or more things by a number of distinctive dots, lines, bars, etc. 14. Contrast-to compare in order to show unlikeness or differences 15. Table-an arrangement of words, numbers, or signs, in columns, to show a set of facts or relations

Exit / Closure Partner discussion with your neighbor (s) What are corresponding angles? List corresponding pairs below A B C T SP

Thursday: Bell Work Write and solve the proportion Answer the question. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. Round dollar amounts to the nearest cent. Mary reduced the size of a painting to a width of 3.3 in. What is the new height if it was originally 32.5 in tall and 42.9 in wide?
