DEDICATED FREIGHT CORRIDOR CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE

CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS Standard of Construction Improved standards and high quality of construction to avoid or minimize future maintenance problems. Gradient Flat Territory Mid section - 1 in 400 or flatter © Yards - 1 in 1200  Semi Ghat Territory Mid Section – 1 in 200 © Yards - 1 in 1200 In the block section at a convenient location gradient of 1 in 1200 to be provided for future crossing station.

CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS Curvature Flat Territory Maximum Curvature – 1 Deg Semi Ghat Territory Maximum Curvature – 2 Deg. Formation  Min Width of top of bank M  Formation shall be free from problem  Proper tested filling earth material only shall be used in embankment as laid down by RDSO.  Top subgrade layer of bank to be made by blending fine aggregates and stone dust as being done in NHAI

CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS Cutting  Min Width of cutting M (incl side drain)  Side slopes to be designed depending earth material. Erosion, Boulder fall, Earth slips blocking the drain etc., to be totally avoided. Bridges  Ballasted deck bridges with RCC Slab/Box/PSC Slab/PSC Box girder  Use only ready mix concrete  For RMC, moveable concrete mix plants to be planned.  Use only high grade concrete

CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS Road crossiongs/ Level Crossings  As far as possible, there shall be no level crossing.  Embankment height to be increased at road crossings to make it feasible to provide RUB at such locations.  However, deep cuttings to provide ROB should not have problems like Boulder fall, earth slips etc.  Complete length to be fenced on both sides.  Service roads along the track provided during construction stage should be maintained in motorable condition.

CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS Permanent Way Rails 60 kg 110 UTS – 20 Rail panel (260m) to be handled by Mechanical track laying equipments Sleeper Wider base spl design sleeper is desirable with 1660 sleeper density Rubber Pads The design of rubber pads needs to be improved to withstand higher axle load Ballast 300 mm cushion (Machine crushed) with present RDSO specification

CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS Permanent Way Turnouts  PSC T.O. with 1 in 16 or 1 in 20 angle  With thick web switches  With weld able CMS crossing  The design of rubber pads under crossing portion needs improvement LWR/CWR/ Welding  20 rail panels are to be converted into LWR/CWRs with mobile flashbutt welding/ gas pressure welding.  SKV welding should be avoided strictly.  All in-situ welds to be joggle fishplated.

CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS Permanent Way Stations Each station layout shall be provided with 100m Engineering siding for stabling RMV/CSM/UNIMAT/BCM

TRACK MAINTENANCE  Fully mechanized maintenance of the track and structure to keep human resources at minimum level.  Dedicated maintenance block of four hours daily with Engg Deptt  Through tamping of track and points & crossings will be done with CSM machine and UNIMAT.  BCM will be deployed for Deep screening once in 10 years. Shoulder cleaning of ballast once in five years by FRM (SBCM)  Isolated track defects will be attended by using light weight off track tie tampers to be moved by Rail Mounted Vehicle (RMV) similar to Tower wagon.

TRACK MAINTENANCE   Use of RMV and light weight motor trolley for quick and efficient attention of isolated track defects.    rack maintenance system divided into three tiers.  Top tier will be the back bone of the maintenance system comprising of CSM machine for tamping of plain track and UNIMAT machine for tamping points and crossings.  Middle tier consists of mobile maintenance gang (MMG) unit which are responsible for tamping of isolated spots conventionally known as slack picking.  Bottom tier comprises of track maintenance and monitoring gangs under sectional SE/JE.

TRACK MAINTENANCE Top Tier Division –headed by Sr DEN/DEN -900 Tkm Sub Division headed by ADEN-300 Tkm  Assisted with one CSM and one UNIMAT machine among two Sr DEN/DEN.

TRACK MAINTENANCE Middle Tier Jurisdiction of each incharge SSE/Pway -150 T Km Each SSE/Pway assisted by Mobile Maintenance Gang (MMG) SE/Pway/ MMG provided with Rail Mounted Vehicle (RMV) and light commercial vehicle MMG unit manned with 8-10 nos of multiskilled artisan trained in trade of Welder, Fitter, Driver, Driver Mechanic and Electrician. The MMG unit will also be responsible for attending rail/weld failures The MMG gang will get down in mid section by RMV and RMV will pick up MMG gang after completion of work. RMV should be permitted to follow goods train with 500m distance

TRACK MAINTENANCE Bottom Tier  Incharge SSE/Pway assisted by two Asstt JE/Pway - 75 Kms  Each JE Pway assisted by a supervisor and 8-10 track men for normal maintenance, emergencies & also to assist MMG.  This unit will be provided with light weight motor trolly.  This unit will also be equipped with off track tampers and trellis jacks so as to develop an alternate gang for slack picking.  Pway Supervisor will measure the extent of defect in track with assistance of one track man of run down location based on foot plate inspection notes, Track recording/Oscillograph car observations.  Based on the defects, CSM or MMG gang or bottom tier trackmen will be deputed.

TRACK MAINTENANCE   As route is purely for goods operation, no statutory inspection by keyman is proposed.  Further no monsoon patrolling is proposed except patrolling by Motor trolley/RMV by supervisors during cloud burst & or heavy rains as per weather warning messages.  Some of the maintenance Works requiring large scale deployment of labour is proposed to be let out to contractual agencies
