Presentation transcript:

I see a Trooper!

The man in this photo is called a Trooper. He is playing the role of a policeman on the goldfields. He is easy to see because of his blue uniform.

I will see the Trooper walking around Sovereign Hill lots of times during the day. The Trooper will help me find my way around Sovereign Hill when I ask him.

Sometimes the Trooper will show visitors how a musket from the 1850s works. It makes a very loud bang! But before the Trooper fires it, he will tell me to put my fingers in my ears. Then the noise will not be so loud at all.

He will then fire it into the air. Watch a YouTube video hereYouTube video

I can have my photograph taken with the Trooper if I ask him. I will ask by saying May I have my photo taken with you please?

I can ask the Trooper questions about the things he is carrying. Troopers in the old days often carried a sabre and a small wooden club called a truncheon. They used these things only when they had to protect themselves.

Sometimes the Trooper might look cranky, but I will remember that he is only pretending. If I need help, the Trooper will always help me with a friendly smile.
