T - T ITLE What do you think the poem is about?

P - P ARAPHRASE Put each sentence into your own words. Look up any words you don’t know

C - C ONNOTATION Figurative Language -(simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, imagery) Sound devices – (alliteration, assonance, rhyme, rhyme scheme)

S - S HIFTS Look for key words that indicate a change or shift.

T - T HEME What is the theme of the poem? Start with topic, then create a theme statement. Remember, if must be in a complete sentence.
