What’s in your Account? ROMANS, part 4 Romans 4:1-25 & Selected Cross Creek Community Church, Pastor Dave Martin – July 19, 2015

Introduction

I. Entire Human race stands guilty before God, Rom Romans 3:19 19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Romans 3:23 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

God’s Provision, Illustration of Abraham & David…

What is Justification? Justification is a divine act whereby an infinitely Holy God judicially declares a believing sinner to be righteous and acceptable before Him because Christ has borne the sinner’s sin on the cross and has become “to us... righteousness” (1 Cor. 1:30; Romans 3:24). New Unger’s Bible Dictionary

II. Abraham was Justified by Faith, not works, Rom 4:1-8 Romans 4:3-8 3 What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." 4 Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

II. Abraham/David was Justified by Faith, not works, Rom 4:1-8 6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: 7 "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

“Credited, Count, Impute” God is said "to impute or credits righteousness" into a persons account, the meaning is that He judicially accounts such a one to be righteous and entitled to all the rewards of a righteous person.

Imputation “To be credited over into one’s account” 1.When Adam’s sin imputed to man

Imputation “To be credited over into one’s account” 1.When Adam’s sin imputed to man 2.When man’s sin was imputed to Christ

Imputation “To be credited over into one’s account” 1.When Adam’s sin imputed to man 2.When man’s sin was imputed to Christ 3.When God’s righteousness is imputed to the believer

III. Abraham was Justified by Grace, not law, Rom 4:9-17 Romans 4:16 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

IV. Abraham was Justified by Resurrection Power, not human effort Romans 4: being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness." 23 The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

What are you trusting in for your eternity? Romans 4:24 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

God Freely Provides Salvation through His Son…

The sinner, therefore, is pardoned and accepted as a righteous person, not on account of anything in himself, but only on account of what Christ has done for him, which means that the merits of Christ's suffering and obedience are imputed to the sinner as the ground of his justification.

What’s in your spiritual account? True forgiveness = true righteousness = true riches!

Ephesians 2:6-7 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
