Interactions Among Living Things
14.2 Community Interactions OBJECTIVES Students will learn that competition and predation are two important ways that organisms interact AND that symbiosis.
Symbiotic Relationships
Symbiosis Symbiosis means a close relationship between two organisms of different species that benefits one or both of the organisms.

22.3 Interactions Among Living Things
What Do We Know? 1. All living things need water to survive. 2. All living things grow, develop and reproduce. 3. Some living things breathe. 4. All living.
Ecology Study of organisms and their interaction with each other and the environment.
Symbiotic Relationships
Population – group of individuals of the same species living in the same area, potentially interacting Community – group of populations of different species.
Lesson 3-How Do Organisms Interact? - Observe how organisms help each other - Describe how organisms compete within an ecosystem - Explain symbiotic relationships.
Symbiotic Relationships Species interactions. What is symbiosis? Long term partnership between members of different species.

SYMBIOSIS NOTES. Relationships among organisms in a community: Predation  One population (predator) captures and feeds upon another population (prey)
Who benefits in this relationship??. What kind of relationship do you see?
Symbiotic Relationships.  SYMBIOSIS refers to the relationship between organisms of different species that show an intimate encounter with each other.

Mutualism Mutualism: A relationship in which both species benefit is called mutualism. The relationship between the saguaro and the long- eared bats is an example of mutualism.

Commensalism A relationship in which one species benefits and the other species is helped nor harmed is called commensalism. The red-tailed hawks’ interaction with the saguaro is an example of commensalism.

Parasitism Parasitism involves one organism living on or inside another organism and harming it. Guardia Lamblia: metabolically active trophoziotes reside in the small intestine.
