Presentation transcript:

For many years, a deep bronze tan with health and beauty, was in favor for a lot of people. The history of when tanning began is very interesting. In 1923, tanning appeared in Vogue magazine by mistake. French designer, Coco Chanel left his vacation on a yacht with a healthy looking bronzed tan. She claimed she just stayed in the sun too long. Little did she know that became a trend. The early fifties saw the bikini, which made more people desire for that all over tan look. Then, in the seventies, eighties and early nineties, more and more people were eager to create their tan. In the eighties, tanning salons began to appear. In the nineties, tanning salons became a growth industry.

When Tanning, Beware of the Dangers! Harmful rays from the sun, sunlamps and tanning beds may cause: Skin cancer, which can be deadly, Eye problems, Weakened ability to fight disease, Unsightly skin spots, or Wrinkles and "leathery" skin. Brown age spots

Skin Cancers The development of skin cancer and when people first started diagnosing it in UV rays are the number one cause of skin cancer. Many skin cancers can be cut out at the time of biopsy.

Tan vs. Sunburn The tanning industry believes that if you were only tan, you wouldn’t sunburn. Tanning indoors does not prevent or lower the risk of burning. Fair skinned people do not tan well and have higher risk of melonoma.

Pictures!

Use the protective eye goggles provided in the salons! Wear sunscreen thick enough to make a difference. Make sure that sunscreen protects both UVA and UVB rays Know your skin type 3 surefire ways to protect your self and lower the risk somewhat of skin cancer!

Self-tanning lotions Now they have tanning pills Make up Bronzing lotion There are many other options to get a healthy tan if people are so aware of the harms due to tanning beds.

Myths of Tanning A suntan is a sign of good health. In fact quite the reverse is true; a suntan is a sign of existing tissue damage and as noted in the previous section it is the skin’s attempt to protect itself against further photo damage.A suntan is a sign of good health.
